I see my creative life as a spiritual path that is intimately connected to my unfolding as a woman and human being.
Growing up in a culture that reveres image~ breaking free from external artistic authority, and finding and expressing my own authentic voice has been an ongoing challenge that is liberating and joyful .
The passion I have to paint spontaneously &intuitively, guided from within, is a core force in my work and in guiding others in Expressive Art groups .(see WORKSHOPS)
Painting mirrors the birth process for me: forming, gestating, struggle, uncertainty, joy, excitement, allowing, and finally new life.
My paintings reflect stories that are both personal and archetypal: love, feminine power, sacred sexuality, and Mystery.
ABOUT THE WORK
I work primarily with acrylic paint and a variety of collage materials. The imagery in my paintings comes from an inner vision that, at it’s best, is not controlled but followed.
In the process of creating, while the original theme usually remains, many aspects change, and the painting emerges of it’s own accord. The experience feels like the painting is painting itself. Many times an unintended sculptural effect forms, as a result of collage that has been painted over.
